Creeping Red Fescue Grass Seed : Creeping red fescue makes an excellent lawn, and is particularly important in shaded locations and on sandy soils. It is a perennial with short rootstalks and stems that are usually reddish at the base and grow 6 to 36 inches high. Despite its name, red fescue will not ‘creep’ into areas all ready covered by wildflowers or other grass varieties – it is not an invasive grass and it mixes well with other grasses to provide a consistent lawn in yards with areas of moderate shade. Creeping red fescue grows best in cool shady areas, and it flourishes at higher altitudes. It is a perfect grass for transitional and cool growing zones. Red Fescue seeds germinate in about 12 - 22 days. Red Fescue performs best in well drained soils with a pH of 5.5 to 8.0.
