LAKESIDE MILLS
A 2 lb. bag of white grits, made at Lakeside Mills which has been grinding corn to meal in North Carolina since 1736. Corn meal and grits were a regular part of a soldier’s diet during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.
There is nothing better than homemade cornbread in a hot iron skillet, brown and crisp. Corn meal is also great to bread fish and make hush puppies.
Stone ground grits have been milled in a way to capture the flavor of the corn, available in white or yellow. Great on cold mornings, piping hot with melted butter and for added taste add a handful of grated cheese and let melt.
